FARMHOUSE FRENCH BREAD
Ingredients
- 6 ½ c all purpose flour
- ½ c warm water
- 2 c HOT water
- 3 T sugar
- 2 T active dry yeast
- ⅓ c canola or vegetable oil
- 1 egg beaten
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in ½c warm water.
- Let proof for 10 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine 3 cups of flour, hot water, oil, sugar, and salt.
- Stir to combine.
- Add a cup of remaining flour at a time, stirring after each.
- Add yeast and allow to sit for 10 minutes.
- Place your dough on a floured surface and cut into 3 equal pieces.
- Flour your rolling pin and roll each into a 9x12 rectangle.
- Roll each from the short side into a jelly roll log.
- Place on a greased baking sheet, seam side down.
- With a knife, make 4 diagonal cuts into the top of the bread.
- Brush with egg and let sit for 45 minutes.
- Bake at 375 for 22-25 minutes.
